Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in our gymnasium consists of inquisitive students with a desire to learn and achieve more. They have never seen a real volleyball net. Its time to show them how to bump, set, and spike!
Our students are in a high need, low income urban area.
Many of them have never left the city we are in. I encourage them to tune into sports they are unfamiliar with. I would love nothing more than to teach them a volleyball unit! Help me to help them learn the game!!!
My Project
I will utilize 4 volleyball standards and two nets to set up and run multiple games at a time. I intend to show them the basic skills of game positioning and movements. So many of my students have inquired about the game of volleyball after seeing some video clips. Teaching them volleyball will instill lifelong memories. The spirit of the game and good sportsmanship are key. This will engage the students in active communication and teamwork.
This project will make a difference for my students by helping them to tap into their unknown potential.
Many of them possess skill sets they don't even know they have. I tell them every day that they need not be a product of their environment, rather they can follow their own path and be whoever they want to be! Maybe this project will inspire them to push farther beyond their limits and their own expectations of themselves!
