Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our FS, JV, and Varsity volleyball student-athletes love being a part of their teams, and they work to be the best they can be both on and off the court. Academically, the student-athletes in our school's volleyball program are college-oriented and work diligently to maintain strong grades.
Our school is located in an urban area of Los Angeles.
The student body, including many members of the volleyball team, come from both ethnically diverse and working-class families. We are considered a Title I school, as the majority of our students qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch. We also have an after-school program which provides a free after-school snack, and many of the players on the team take advantage of it.
My Project
Each year, our team practices both indoors and outdoors, plays in tournaments, and works to be the best volleyball team we can with the resources we have at our school. We need new volleyballs every season as the ones we have get worn out after both our girls' and boys' programs use them throughout the year. A new volleyball cart is needed for both practice and tournaments, as we sometimes have 3 levels of volleyball playing at different sites. With our practice, game, and tournament schedule, players can sometimes have aches and pains like jumper's knee, and sore muscles, therefore we need a muscle roller, knee straps in various sizes, athletic tape, KT tape, reusable ice bags, and a first aid kit. Finally, we need scorebooks, needles, and basketballs to stay in shape and have fun during our offseason.
