My special education students need a netbook computer to combat bullying with technology.

Our class is a 6th grade learning disabilities and autism classroom. My students face bullying on a daily basis on the yard, and coming to and from school. Some experience domestic violence at home or in foster care.

I volunteer at a Battered Women and their Children's Shelter and have seen firsthand the effects of violence. My students are interested in helping others through service projects. Together, we can stop this cycle. Research shows students are more motivated and engaged in learning when they have their own computer. Computer use has been linked to better organizational skills, improved literacy and numeracy, better collaboration and analytical thinking.

We need a netbook to explore the various sites that show how to combat bullying and spread the peace. Students enjoy using these online sites. They are easy to understand and even the least motivated students will love to participate.There are several Bullying Projects on the Internet. Armed with information, we can use conflict resolution skills. Youth who bully frequently during adolescence are more likely to be aggressive and to have criminal records in adulthood.

You will make it possible for my students to learn to respect others as well as not be victims. Stop Bullying now! Please help us realize living safely is possible.
