My students need writing supplies, t-shirts to design for advertising/fundraising for their campaign, and computers (& a mouse for each one) for added participation.
By the end of the year, I want my kids to really, really see themselves as philanthropists, and agents of change. Students created and bought into the idea right away that they could do something about bully-prevention on a classroom scale, and now it's time to expand upon that school-wide!
My students are absolutely amazing.
They are ready for the challenging expectations I've set before them. Though they are only in third grade, they have already begun typing, blogging, and submitting homework online. We are members of an international school, providing real-world diversity of people and cultures that will set our students up for success throughout their lives.
Now that they've seen the power of their voices, they have a thirst for activism that could alter the future they see for themselves in the world.
My Project
Students will use fabric paint to design their anti-bullying t-shirt to display and advertise during our school's first anti-bullying day. The computers and tablets will be used to expand upon the technology we already have in the classroom, adding the possibility of additional research, footage editing, and global activism. The pencils, sharpeners, and other writing utensils will all be used directly to advertise and analyze for the campaign, and push their efforts forward to the next level.
This project will allow students to see themselves as philanthropists-- and to see the small steps that add up to a long journey of efficacy and possibility.
The computers and tablets will also allow me to further differentiate learning outcomes for students, in addition to providing more in-the-moment research opportunities.
