My Students

"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow," John Dewey said, and my students deserve a chance to have advanced technology to help them learn. Technology is a tool I can use to motivate my students and increase their desire to learn.

My students and I live in a low income area and they seldom have the opportunity to see and experience advanced technology.

I have taught in the same school and classroom for five years, all five years being in first grade. For the past two years, I have had the privilege of teaching students who need extra support and one-on-one help with a co-teacher. Together, my co-teacher and I have around 32 students each year. The tablets will motivate the students and arouse their interest in all academic areas, year after year.

My Project

My students will be able to use apps for improving their reading, math, and research skills. The Hungry Fish app will allow students to improve their math skills, while also promoting their processing speed. Other apps including Spelling Bug, Playful Minds, Sentence Magic, and Zoom will all help promote student learning as well. These tablets will be used in a small group setting with me to ensure they are not misused. My students can barely contain their excitement about having the tablets for our classroom learning!
