Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a group of amazing group of students that want nothing else but solid stable reading foundation.
All of my students arrive early to school with beaming smiles and they all have the courage to learn and take on new challenges every day.
Our school is in big urban city. Our students make our school and neighborhood seem so beautiful and calm because they are the most polite children you will ever meet in an urban school/city.
Our school is in one of America's lowest-income neighborhoods, yet, our teachers do everything in their power to make sure their students have all of the needed materials to be successful. The student population is comprised largely of English Language Learners and students with special needs. Our students and parents are always grateful. We, as teachers, find ways to supply our students with all of the needed learning tools to make their school year successful.
My Project
My students have been working extremely hard trying to learn to recognize all of the letters and remember the sounds each letter makes. I have students that can recognize the letters but are unable to produce the sounds, then there are a few students that can recognize the sound but are unable to print the letters or use the letter in a word.
Reading for some students is challenging but should not be frustrating.
It can become extremely challenging to find new exciting ways for my students to learn the alphabet with limited resources.
I am asking for a variety of multi-sensory material so students can learn the alphabet using their sense of touch. We are in need of letter tiles so students can sound and tap out beginning and ending sounds. The word sliders would benefit my students with visual difficulties because the sliders would allow them to see a letter at a time. The touch and read would benefit all of my students because they would use all of their senses to trace lines and curves that make these letters!
To become readers my struggling students need a variety of material to help them remember and recognize letters and make sound connections.
