My Students

I am lucky enough to work with 44 fun-loving first graders! They are a diverse group of students coming from all over California's San Fernando Valley.

Our school is a small, tight-knit community of 264 students where the staff truly knows each and every student.

We believe in hands-on, project-based learning where teachers guide students as they construct meaning through experiences. We also understand that our students need to learn how to collaborate and communicate effectively and strive to provide opportunities for them to develop these skills.

My Project

Our students will be applying STEM principles using the Magna Tiles and kinetic sand to build structures. They will get the opportunity to test the strength of their structures and rebuild to increase stability and improve their buildings. They will use the Marble Run to discover how gravity moves the marble through the run.

They will observe what slows the marble down or speeds it up as it passes through different parts of the run, and how changing the path of the marble affects the speed from the top to the bottom.

The students will work in teams to come up with different plans for their creations.
