Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic and enthusiastic 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Their inquisitive nature makes teaching science so much fun. Although many of my students struggle with language and academics, they are determined and have a genuine desire to learn. Their faces light up during each experiment; their eyes twinkle with excitement.
An exciting science experiment transcends language and ability.
No matter which class, no matter which student, I am teaching, with the proper tools they are engaged and ready to learn. A simple demonstration can prompt a plethora of questions and lead to authentic inquiry in a matter of moments.
My Project
Too often elementary school students are bombarded with structured test prep, limited recess, and a lack of creative instruction. These resources will help my students explore the world around them in fun and engaging ways.
It has been said that play is a child's work.
However, students are deprived of opportunities to engage in play that builds their curiosity of the world around them. The programmable mouse activity kit helps students develop directionality, sequencing, and basic problem solving skills. Similarly when using the KEVA Maker Bot Maze students can construct and navigate unique mazes. The KEVA Contraptions set will provide future engineers and architects guidance in construction before they are encouraged to build their own creative designs.
The SuperScience STEM Instant Activities will provide for 30 different hands-on investigations. Students can explore topics of interest with guidance and supporting texts provide relevant background information. Through these resources students will be engaged and motivated in hands-on activities that lead to further investigations and learning opportunities.
