I teach in a very unique third grade classroom at a Title I School. I team teach with two other general education teachers and we have sixty-five students in our classroom. Yes, you read correctly sixty-five students in one classroom all at the same time. This classroom setting presents some unique challenges, but it is also a lot of fun.
The majority of our students are low-income and receive free or reduced price lunch.
Amid difficult home lives, our school still has one of the best attendance rates in the state. Our students, many of whom are English Language Learners, have said that they love learning in our unique setting. We love seeing their joy for learning and I am honored to teach so many joyful, energetic students.
My Project
We were fortunate enough to get funded for these same Chromebooks in previous projects. However, we only have enough devices for less than half of our class. I want to work towards getting our class to be a fully 1:1 tech setting.
My students absolutely love technology and know how to use it as a vehicle for knowledge!
My students are using our current Chromebooks in all subjects taught in the classroom from health to science to math to language arts and everything in-between. With added Chromebooks, I will be able to conduct more student-led tech stations, increase small group work, and decrease whole group lectures. With the smaller group sizes, I am able to make my students' learning more personalized and interactive.
These Chromebooks will continue to help my students learn to use programs, such as the Google Suite tools (Google Docs/Slides), conduct research, and publish their writing. It is so neat to see my students explore these tech tools and even teach me new things that they've found out on their own! My ultimate goal is to teach my students to continue to better themselves in the technology of their future.
