A large majority of the students that I serve come from small-town, rural homes and farming communities. They are excited to learn, and their efforts are supported at home by their families. Our school is a very tight-knit community that is constantly searching for ways to help students reach their potential and achieve success.
Providing my students with new and interesting experiences is one way that I can excite their love of learning.
They may see and hear about a lot of things via the internet, but until they've had the opportunity to experience it for themselves, how will they ever truly know if it might become something that they're passionate about?
My Project
Having 3D printers available with these requested Hatchbox colored printer filaments will make it possible to bring my students' designs and creations off of the paper and into the real world. They will be using this technology to participate in an authentic, real-world learning experience. Working in teams, they will design products and print them off in 3D. They will then create promotional packaging, videos, flyers, and/or websites in an attempt to "sell" their products to the school. This project will require them to work on skills beyond just creation. They will get to see how their knowledge and effort can be applied to the world outside the four walls of the classroom.
How can we not expose our children to the possibilities provided through 3D printing?
3D printing is becoming more and more prevalent in the world today, being used in fields of medicine, construction, art, product design, and even food production. Giving my students even just a small taste of this could open up countless possibilities for them!
