Building Up Great Students

Help me give my students LEGO materials that they can use for STEM activities including the XL Bulk Set and Sceneries Set that will help build our classroom LEGO collection.

My Students

I teach in a low-income area where opportunities are few and far between. Many of my students have been personally affected by the decline of the coal industry and the increase of the opioid crisis. I teach a special education class with grades K-4. Most of my students are in grades 3-4. My students are kind, funny and energetic. They deserve to have the same opportunities as children from areas of greater wealth. I want to help my special education students meet their fullest potential.

My Project

With these materials, I will teach STEM lessons that involve building and design. I will teach students about important engineering techniques such as stability and cost-effectiveness.

My hope is that these materials will inspire a love of engineering in my students and help some students find their future careers.

These materials will be utilized in individual, small group, and whole group instruction.

A common problem I run into in my classroom is having a wide range of abilities that require me to work one-on-one with each student every day. Some of my students who have difficulty reading a ​text by themselves will use the LEGOS to learn to create infrastructure while I am working one-on-one with other students.
