My students need LEGOs and other materials to help them grow into builders, innovators, and creative problem solvers while collaborating, tinkering, exploring, and creating.
My school library program serves over 425 amazing, diverse students in a K-5 building; one-third of those students are in Spanish Immersion classrooms. My school population includes students from many different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
My students are dreamers and thinkers, writers and explorers, artists and athletes, scientists and mathematicians.
My students love learning and visiting the library. When struggling with an idea or concept, my students know that mistakes can help them learn and that they can always improve. They are hard workers who strive to do their best!
I would love to be able to take our library time to the next level and provide hands-on, engaging activities and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to solve problems!
I want my students to aspire to "Never limit yourself because of others' limited imagination; never limit others because of your own limited imagination." (Mae Jemison)
My Project
At our school, our work together is based on the African proverb, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." I want my students to have the opportunity to collaborate on projects during our time in the library. Help us expand our Makerspace with LEGOs and other building materials!
In order to thrive in the 21st century, my students need to have access to a learning environment where they can collaborate, think critically, and problem solve.
The library is the perfect places for that to happen! The ideal library is a vibrant place where students can read, construct things, experiment, try out ideas, and apply newly learned skills and concepts to become independent, lifelong learners, informed decision makers, efficient researchers, competent users of technology, and avid, proficient readers.
My students want to engage in meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities and need materials to do so. The LEGOs, K'NEX, TINKERTOYS, and Magformers sets will allow my students to be creative, imaginative, and inventive. My students will be able to integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in our Makerspace. They will learn to solve problems while working cooperatively with each other. Over 425 students will have access to the building materials.
