Every year, I eagerly anticipate the arrival of my new students. Each class of students is uniquely wonderful. My school is in a rural area, near a busy city. Some students come from families that work in the city and live in town among the peaceful farm lands, some work local on farms and in the community and some are not able to find work.
Over 50% of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch and struggle to supply day to day needs.
My Project
This project comes right from the imagination of my students, and I hope to make it a reality for them. These wonderful young people want to make 3D model buildings, inspired by famous buildings, in their small town and the nearby city.
My students plan to use Google Street View to inspect a famous building of their choosing and then build a 3D building model, inspired by their famous building!
When my students told me what they wanted to do I was floored. It is such a creative idea; I really want to make it a reality for them.
I am asking for cutting, gluing and building materials for creating 3D buildings. Card stock will be used for the walls and floor of the buildings. We will need knives and blades, as well as cutting mats, to cut the card stock precisely. A hot glue gun glue will then be used to attach the pieces and hold the structures together.
These materials can be used over and over and will not go to waste once the project is over. I am partnering with the Art Teacher, Art Club and Engineering Club, and hope to make this 3D architecture project a yearly activity.
