My students need engaging and hands-on alphabet puzzles as a means of exploring and learning the different letters and sounds in the alphabet.

My kindergarten students are incredible in every way. Kindergarten is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold a pencil. Our students attend an inner-city public school where approximately 90% live below the poverty line. We spend a lot of time doing hands-on learning.
All of our students receive a free or reduced-price lunch and participate in the backpack program on the weekends.
This does not stop our students from coming to school and showing their love for learning. We love to explore everything around us, both inside and outside of the classroom. We love to show what we know and learn in a hands-on way.
In order for students to begin learning to put together bigger whole words students need to know and have a solid knowledge base of letter identification and letter sounds. Once students understand and are able to identify basic letters and letter sounds they are ready to begin the challenge of sight word recognition. Learning the alphabet is key for kindergartens so that they can begin building the foundations of being a successful reader.
These alphabet puzzles are essential for the learning and growth of letter recognition and sound identification.
As students put together the puzzles the students will be able to visually identify different objects and or images that being with the specific letter. The students will also be able to identify the letter and the sound in which the letter makes. These alphabet puzzles are perfect for my tactile learners and will help improve fine motor skills as well as eye hand coordination. These puzzles will be a great addition to my every day reading center. The alphabet storage rack will be used as a means of storing the alphabet puzzles. This rack will help keep the puzzles organized as the rack has each letter of the alphabet printed next to where the alphabet puzzles belongs. The What's the Sound? Word Sliders will also be placed in my reading center. These world sliders are perfect for challenging students to identify the sound that is missing in the word. These sliders are great for independent centers as the provide a picture of the word and revel what the missing letter sound is with just a swipe across on the slider.
