Traditionally, in my class of 50 students, I promote the Sports Education Model. Students come together in my class to work on learning the skills necessary to lead a healthy, active lifestyle. At the end of the school year, my students will have learned how to work together as teammates.
Our school mission, 'Building Unity Through Diversity' is exemplified in my classroom.
Students of all races, abilities, and skill levels come together to learn the skills of new sports and of how to work together to support each other as teammates.
Many of my students enter into my class not knowing anything about sports or how to be part of a team. I help to instill in them the love of living a healthy lifestyle and the importance of learning to work together as teammates.
These skills, learning how to work together, and learning how to make healthy choices help my students shape their futures.
My Project
My main goal is that students gain a sense of confidence, skills development and enjoyment all while exploring a new team sport. All activities are student-driven and promote cooperative learning and team building, leading to healthy social-emotional development.
During each unit students get the opportunity to learn and play different roles in sports. Roles range from captain, coach, manager, head official, motivator, publicist, sports council and exercise specialist. The equipment will help students run the team. Whistles will help students serve as referees. Students will learn how to play Badminton with the Badminton rackets and shuttlecocks. The non-sting volleyballs will help students learn how to play volleyball without the fear of the impact of the ball inhibiting their play.
