"There are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind." - Mr. Rogers
Our Title I school is working hard to ensure that each and every student has the opportunity to learn successfully through both virtual and in-person learning this year.
My classroom is filled with kindergartners who come from a wide variety of socio-economic classes, religions, and racial backgrounds. I strive to create a classroom community where each and every one of my students feels welcomed and loved.
My Project
This year of hybrid learning has left my students with far less opportunities to strengthen their fine motor skills than they would typically have. Instead of building their finger strength with play doh and legos, they were growing their technical skills online. As we transition to more in-person time, my students need centers that will help them build their fine motor skills in an engaging way. Fine motor skills are essential in order for students to become successful writers. Students with strong fine motor skills have more confidence in their writing.
It is crucial that I am able to provide my students with fine motor centers in order to build their confidence as strong writers.
This project includes materials for hands-on engineering centers, tools to build finger strength, and other fun activities that will build writer confidence. The ContrustALetter Activity Center, Vehicle Building Engineering Center, Crazy Shapes Magnetic Building Set, Imagination Design builders, and Can Do Magnets Discovery Kit will all be great centers that students can use to grow their fine motor skills through building and innovation. The pencil grips, fine motor tools, bouncy bands, Pop Play, and Theraputty will be great sensory tools for students to use when writing and to build their finger strength. Sensory materials like these can be a great tool to help students stay focused when writing.
I know that my students would be so excited to work with these new materials, all while building crucial skills.
