Help me give my students opportunities to build their social, fine motor and critical thinking skills! Students will build fine motor skills as they work with legos and learn to work cooperatively to problem solve STEM activities.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are part of Cincinnati Ohio's Preschool Promise, an initiative to provide quality preschool to low to moderate income families that are not eligible for Head Start due to income restrictions. These students are 3, 4, and 5 years old and come from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds and include English Language Learners from other countries.
Research shows a positive correlation with attending preschool and graduating from college.
Growth Mindset tells us that intelligence is not fixed at birth, but instead is molded through life experience. Students that enter kindergarten without preschool are at a great disadvantage. Sixty percent of these students cannot write their name and 68% can not identify all letters of the alphabet at the start of kindergarten. Preschool promotes physical and mental activity, better motor skills and coordination, and better self esteem.
My Project
A LEGO Table will allow a dedicated space for students to build and explore with materials. It will also allow for opportunities for students to cooperate and build social skills by having four dedicated seats for LEGO play.
The Building Bricks STEM Challenge KIt will allow students to take on exciting tasks as they explore physical science concepts.
The LEGOs and the LEGO animals will allow for opportunities for fine motor development, cooperation and dramatic play. Students will build language skills (especially for those students with English as a Second Language) and self esteem by feeling accomplishment upon completing task!
