My student's are very caring and compassionate. We are working on developing their character to build a well rounded student. We look at the whole child, not just the academic side of things. Our focus is on developing the whole child.
One area we sometimes struggle with is writing and social problem solving.
Problem solving in social situations is one area we want to improve upon. This can be accomplished through teaching students how to solve problems with others. Play is a great way to share this with students.
Many times students are faced with the challenge of not being able to think about topics to write about. In many cases students need something concrete to help get them started. Students use the LEGO Blocks to build a scene and then take a picture to include in a writing piece. The creativity really shows through.
This also supports the growth and development of the students social skills.
Through play, students learn how to interact with one another, share materials, and compromise. These are all skills they need help with. We are seeing more and more students today come to school without skills on how to work with others, how to take turns, and how to solve those problems that may occur when working with others. This is a life skill they need.
