Curious, imaginative, fun-loving, creative: these are just some of the words I'd use to describe my new group of students. My classroom is made up of eight smart and endearing young people diagnosed with Autism. We are located in a low-income school where I need to buy most of my own supplies. An autism classroom is not run in the traditional way.
My students require a much more individualized and specialized way of learning.
They learn through hands-on materials and visuals. When provided with this type of learning environment, my students can learn and excel! But first, we need some basic supplies to keep our classroom running smoothly!
My Project
During the day my students frequently have time in class allotted for collaboration. They are expected to engage within student to student discourse and utilize effective social skills. The interaction that takes place within playing board games can be quite effective with learning those social skills. Students would be interacting with a purpose in a fun way.
Students enjoy playing board games.
They will often ask to have a "Game Day" because they have a good time with that type of socialization. I will provide a variety of board games that sparks their interest. I will also provide board games that meet a wide range of learning abilities.
