My students need Design & Build Engineering centers, a dinosaur collection with bins, and Blocks & Blueprints learn center to build our Morning Exploration Tubs. This will give my students a chance to explore in the morning as well as encourage social interaction and strengthen social skills.

I teach 20 to 24 energetic first graders in a classroom where I provide many opportunities for students to get up, move, and have hands-on activities.
In my classroom, students have many opportunities to be in charge of their own learning!
I work at a large elementary school, with a wonderful staff. They are committed to engaging and inspiring students through creative learning experiences. As well as build a safe and collaborative environment for exploration where students are willing to take risks in learning.
My Project
This year I am focusing on Social Emotional Learning in the classroom. Research shows that Social Emotional Learning not only improves achievement by an average of 11 %, but it also increases prosocial behaviors (such as kindness, sharing, and empathy), improves student attitudes toward school, and reduces depression and stress among students (Durlak et al., 2011). Play is vital to children’s social development.
Every morning the students in my classroom get a chance to explore selected toys to play with and practice their social skills.
Design & Build Engineering Centers will give them a chance to explore STEM activities while building team building skills. Blocks & Blueprints Learning Center will give my students a chance to practice spatial reasoning. The set of dinosaurs would be used for imagination play as well as learning and the carrying case will be used to keep the dinosaurs organized. By donating to our project, you will not only help provide quality materials for our morning tubs, you will ultimately help to increase increase their social competence and emotional maturity.
School is one of the primary places where students learn social and emotional skills. Having these morning tubs not only gives my students time to practice these skills, but also sets their school day off in a fun and interactive way!
