These first graders are some of the most eager-to-learn kiddos I have experienced in my 21 years of teaching. They love to learn and play. They crave new information and study new authors as if they were dear friends. They love to explore and discover new things together.
My students desire to learn new and interesting things in new and interesting ways.
I am constantly searching for materials that will challenge them in their growth and development.
And they love learning to read!
My Project
All research points to the need for choice and volume in student reading. Books should be appealing, at the right level, and in great supply.
These beautiful books would help me revitalize the outdated and lacking areas of my classroom library.
In particular, these books are captivating non-fiction (at a level difficult to find), and engaging characters that children LOVE to follow.
In our reading workshop, we have private and partner reading every day for at least 40 minutes. We also take these books home for an additional 20 minutes at home every night. These books would be well-read and well-loved by my students and families for years to come.
