Help me give my students items such as pencil pouches, colored pencils, and stress balls to help them learn to handle their stress levels so their learning is not impeded in the classroom.
I am a middle school counselor which means I work with students on a variety of issues. Anxiety/panic attacks seems to be one of the more common issues we deal with on a daily bases. With Covid-19 and our "new normal" I anticipate this is going to be an even more prevalent issue with all of our students.
I feel our students, as a whole enjoy coming to school and feel safe here.
I really want this attitude to continue despite what is going on in the world around us. When they are feeling super stressed it is easy for them to disengage with learning and just shut down.
My Project
These materials and supplies will help my students de-stress which will then let them focus on dealing with the problem or situation in a more productive manner. Although these items seem simple, they will enable students to find a simple activity (such as squeezing a stress ball or jotting down a sentence or two in a journal), that will help lower anxiety and/or stress and keep them in the classroom without interrupting others. Ultimately, I would like for my students who experience extreme stress/anxiety to learn to manage these emotions without material items
