Building Relevant Engagement Through Fences and Project Based Learning
Help me give my students opportunities to so relevant and engaging work. "Fences" by August Wilson was a play before it was a movie starring Denzel Washington. This play really resonates with students from all backgrounds.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have great kids! They're the kind of kids who will hold a door open for you or help you carry a box without asking. They may not have much money, but they are smart, polite and creative.
We like to do engaging outside-the-textbook work.
In our class, we like to read plays, do projects, research our family histories, create vision boards and explore the world through Virtual Reality.
My students are most drawn in when the work is relevant to their personal experience.
My Project
Educational research supports Project Based Learning and contemporary relatable literature.
With these scissors and glue sticks, we will be able to create family trees and vision boards.
We will create "interactive notebooks." We will be participants in our own education instead of just spectators.
My students will be able to read and analyze August Wilson's award-winning play, "Fences." They will be engaged in a way they could never be by a textbook.
In "Fences," students will find a tale of family, love, betrayal, and the boundaries we create to hold people in and to push people out. "Fences" is ripe with symbolism.
