My students come to us from every walk of life. Due to the impact of COVID-19, our school year, like many others, is looking quite different. Masks, social distancing, and remaining in their classrooms or long periods of time are just some of the ways my students' school lives will be different. With this in mind, our goal in the library is to keep our students safe and engaged.
My students need 5 minute stories such as Llama Llama, Pete the Cat and My Little Pony as well as a portable check out station with a wireless scanner to promote our 100 Books Before Kindergarten Program!
My Project
Inside my ECSE-2nd grade building are approximately 25 Early Childhood students. Many of these students do not have the opportunity to visit our local community library for many reasons such as lack of transportation, working families, and language barriers.
This project will give my Pre-K students and their families the ability to check out from a specific library tailored to their needs in order to read 100 books before Kindergarten and to bloom into the leaders they are!
These board books will be placed near the entrance of our Pre-K building and will be open to families for checkout during drop off and pick up during the week! Not only will this project provide much needed books for my younger students, it will also allow them to build connections with their families and to see the importance of sharing a story. This project also includes a rolling cart and a portable wireless charger to allow for parents to check out the books through a mobile check out station!
