Sir Richard Steele said, "Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body." As my Kindergarten students learn the fundamental elements of reading, my goal is to provide them with a variety of engaging, kinesthetic activities to help them master how letters look, sound, and make words.
My Kindergarten students enjoy learning in a Title I elementary school located in a rural area of the Florida panhandle.
Our school district is considered a small one (4 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 1 high school); but progressive in its approach to maintaining high quality facilities, dedicated faculty and staff members, and innovative learning environments. Most of my students' parents work outside the home, but are eager to support our school in any way that they are able.
My Project
The learning resources funded through this project will enhance the early reading abilities of my Kindergarten students through a natural progression of developmental skills.
The Lakeshore learning resources funded through this project will enhance the early reading abilities of my Kindergarten students through a natural progression of developmental skills. Letter formation and recognition skills will be strengthened in a Trace and Write Learning Center, with Magnetic Letter Builders and Alphabet Stamps. My students will have fun learning the sounds letters make and associating them with words by using the Launch and Learn Beginning Sounds Game. Finally, my students will move on to using letters and sounds to build words while having lots of fun using the CVC Word Work Center and Fill-in-the-Blank Learning Stamps.
Through the generosity of donors, the variety of hands-on, independent learning activities in my classroom will be greatly enhanced.
I think my students will love the kinesthetic elements of the activities: tracing, stamping, launching, building, and ultimately....reading!
