Help me give my students the best basketball experience available. I have learned over the many years of coaching, you need pennies, basketballs, and good socks. All of which are difficult for players to supply at their level.
I work with 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. I'm a Secondary Literacy Specialist and my job is to oversee and work with the at risk students in our building. I have been coaching Jv Girls Basketball for the past five years. This year I chose to move down to 8th grade to better support my players on a daily basis with their education, social skills, and fundamentals of basketball.
My students are the most at-risk students in the building, with a wide range of abilities.
All of my students are 100% free breakfast and lunch. That doesn't mean they are not the most hard-working. They are working hard every day to better themselves and their education. My students tackle any task thrown their way with determination and self-motivation. We talk about how no one is perfect and that everyone makes mistakes. It's important to identify the mistake and learn from it. Otherwise, it's not a mistake, it's a choice you make. All of my students are honest and work hard to improve in school.
My Project
I have been coaching at the Jv High School level for the past five years. I chose to move down to 8th grade to help better prepare the players for their future basketball experience and to help build our girls basketball program in our district.
All of my players receive free breakfast and lunch.
We are one of the only districts in our area, that players are not asked to pay to play. Having pennies, socks, and new basketballs are essential for building their confidence with playing basketball and having the proper equipment to be successful.
