Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My goal is to make my classroom fun and engaging. I want my students to love coming to school and to be active learners.
I have 24 enthusiastic second grade students.
They come to school excited to experience new things and eager to learn about the world around them. I teach in a low income school with a high number of English Language Learners. My school is very innovative and offers a wide variety of after school clubs to give opportunities to our students that many wouldn't have otherwise.
My Project
The Osmo Pizza Company game is a hands-on game that uses our classroom iPads. It is the perfect way to help build financial literacy! During our math rotations, my students will work collaboratively in pairs using the Osmo Pizza Company game and bases. Students will be given a pizza order and they will make the pizza. The game will scan the pizza to see if it is correct. If so, the customer pays and the students will have to make the correct change and scan it. This reinforces important math concepts such as number sense and money management.
The Osmo Pizza Company game is a wonderful way for my students to practice counting back change and running a business, all of which are important real-life skills that build financial literacy.
It is essential for my students to build these skills in an engaging, hands-on way. By providing my students with these experiences early in their school career, my students will be prepared for more complex lessons as they progress through the grade levels.
