Building Personal Character Through Children's Literature
Help me give my students strong character education through rich children's literature that teaches them to analyze and evaluate personal lessons through each story.
Our building services students from Pre-K through fourth grade. We have a variety of students from different economic backgrounds and life experiences. We are a close knit community desiring to educate our students to be confident, well-adjusted, community-minded citizens.
Our preschool/elementary school is home to about 850 students that range in age from four to eleven.
They are a kind, energetic group of students that are learning about respect, responsibilty, kindness and safety. With a large and varying range of life experiences, we wish to develop common character language for the success of our students.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the character development that our school strives to create. A staff literature library is is being built within our media center that is available to all classroom teachers. This makes our collection of titles accessible to all 850+ students within our school.
Classroom teachers will be able to select high quality literature to teach the varying character lessons that their students need.
As students grow and develop through the school year, a variety of materials will be available to meet their needs. Many youth across the country are showing an increasing need for support with social and emotional growth, and additionally, individual mental health needs. These books will continue to help students grow and develop as individuals for many years to come.
