This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am teaching two groups of fourth-grade students at a title one school. There is a wide range of learning levels between the two classes. I have some students that are identified with a learning disability, while other students are identified as gifted. Each child comes from a different background, but most come from a low-social economical lifestyle. Regardless of their background, they come to school and try their best to learn.
Our classroom is a safe place, where they are asked to try their very best and that is what they do each and every day.
My goal for each of my students this year is for them to grow and become proficient in the 4th grade math common core standards.
My Project
Students have a great imagination and need a way to express it. This is why the Legos and unifix cubes are needed in my classroom. Everyday I teach my students about math word problems but these materials can help them bring to life the word problem and see what it is talking about.
Students are encouraged to expand upon their imagination which is why these materials will be used in STEM bins too .
They will be able to use these bins when they finish their work early or have indoor recess. These bins will have my students building different designs and working in teams to make it happen. Through the use of these materials they will be learning math, STEM and team building skills.
