Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are going to have a great start to the year with all your help! Most of our students currently coming to our school will be coming from an elementary school that has recently closed down due to district wide change. They have currently had major changes to their educational space and comfort, with plans to make this a positive move.
What better way to welcome them to a new school, than with some awesome new tactile equipment/manipulatives and helping me out a bit with organizing the classroom group work and small group materials?
Our students will hold high expectations and accountability with goals that include: going up 6-8 levels in our reading program (1.5 year growth), getting ELA and MATH to an 80% mastery of content, and growing as leaders. Our students have a variety of needs, yet they have a lot to offer and "Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon." - Paul Brandt
My Project
These materials will help both our students through engaging math center activities and organization to make everything flow! There is countless articles, both social and scientific, that correlates tactile learning (learning through touch) with engaging and active minds. The Fort Builder, Geostix, and Magna-Tiles will all be used with whole brain application behind supporting research. I would love our students to engage with early hands on manipulatives that revolve around geometry and engineering concepts.
The kinetic sand will be used as a support material for when ever there is a moment one of our students needs to take a break.
This will be at our classrooms' Take 5 table, which will hold as a stress relief for social, emotional, or behavioral support.
The standing organizer will hold materials for small group near our small group table. Space is limited and this is perfect for moving around the room and easily getting around table groups. It will also keep all my materials I need somewhere near intervention settings so that I can give my full attention to our students in their prime small group time.
The colorful bins will help groups store their class journals for ELA and math! Allowing students to keep their desks organized and spacious to do work, and keep all their notes and responses in good condition.
