After completing my first year as an elementary school media specialist, I have discovered my students have so much to offer and say about their love of learning, their thoughts and their reactions to topics, events and stories we read in the media center. Often times, background experiences from traumatic or troubling situations, or feelings of shyness or anxiety, prevent my students from having the confidence they need to truly express how they feel or what they are struggling with. A Makerspace area in the library will allow my students' opportunities to create, invent and design that will increase their self-confidence and ability to express their feelings through creative art.
We currently have one 75 Keva planks set in our library.
My students love building structures with Keva Planks, however, there is limited access for my students due to only one set of planks.
Only a few students can use them at a time.
By using the engineering design process in building structures with these additional Keva kits, my students will be able to strengthen their problem-solving skills and innovative minds by working in a team effort to construct design challenges. This will give my students increased self-confidence that they need to recognize they can do anything they set their minds to.
