My Students

The students in my classroom are all affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. They have a lot of unique and specific needs that impact their communication, behavior, and cognitive abilities. Each student is different and has different needs. They require specific visual and sensory stimulation to be successful throughout the day. They are thoughtful and sweet students who need opportunities to spend time with typically developing students. They are amazing and inspiring kids! I want to foster their love of reading!

My Project

As a first year teacher, I only have a small selection of books in my classroom. In a special education classroom like mine the students have such varied levels of reading ability and also varied interests. It is necessary to provide students with a range of levels and topics to read about in order to encourage an interest in reading as well as build skills. I need to build my library to help keep students engaged and help them grow their love of reading. They are so special and deserve to have books that they truly enjoy during the day!
