Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are middle schoolers who are participating in Theater class (8th grade) and after school Drama Club (6th, 7th, and 8th grade) for the first time.

My students are excited about performing for their peers as first time actors.

They are proactive in searching for plays on their own. Students are able to find short skits (1-2 pages long) but they are asking for "real" plays. Their enthusiasm is being limited because our school library does not have any plays. They are working on two Shakespeare plays which I happen to have in the classroom library but it is above most of their understanding.

My Project

Students need plays! This is the first year with an after school club for drama and Theater class. We have limited performing arts books in our school library that we use, yet there aren't any play scripts to perform.

My students will be using these play, such as Diary of Anne Frank and The Triangle Factory Fire Project , to perform in theater class and after school drama club and to connect to their core classes.

We do not have any plays, except for two Shakespeare plays which are too advanced for some of my students. They are so excited to start performing.
