Building Our Financial Literacy Skills

My Students

My twenty-eight students are fourth graders in a high poverty elementary school. They have a wide range of abilities, needs, and concerns.

Even though my students may deal with struggles at home, they come to school every day ready and willing to be part of our family and learn what they can.

They want to do their best and prove that they are capable of being successful. They strive to be "The Best They Can Be" each and every day!

My Project

In fourth grade, my students learn the concepts of economics and being financially literate. Throughout our economic unit, they create a business, design products for their business, come up with a business name and slogan, design their own money, develop advertising techniques, and learn the steps it takes to run a business.

Learning all the steps it takes to start and run a business allows them to be more prepared for their future as adults.

While creating these aspects of their business, my students need to print out several items. This can't be done if we don't have any ink for our classroom printer. By providing my students with printer ink, it will make their job of creating their business more enjoyable and they will learn more in the process.
