I have the opportunity to support and inspire sixty students who come to school every day with the hope of learning not just about academics, but also about themselves. One hundred percent of my students' native language is not English and they work very hard every day to learn a second language.
My English language learners' (ELLs) overall learning styles vary greatly.
Some of my students read and write fluently in their native language and/or English, while others come in with very limited literacy skills and require creative approaches for their transition to the English language.
In every home, office and school, there is always a focal point where people gather to share, communicate and work with others. In our classroom, that happens to be our front rug.
Our front rug is the hub of our classroom!
This is where, every day, we have our morning and end-of-the-day meeting. This is where our small groups meet to work with each other in all subjects. This is where we sit together and listen to one another read. It provides function, comfort and security to my students.
Unfortunately our rug has seen better days and it needs to be replaced. Our old rug is falling apart and does not have the same function it used to have for my students. We are wishing for a new rug where we can continue to do the wonderful work we do each and every day.
