My Project

Recently I asked each of my students, if you could make all the choices of what school looked like for you, what would you choose. The answers would surprise you! They described an ideal learning environment where they had the tools to work through new concepts themselves and where they felt like they were "as comfortable as they are at home."

This project will help bring some of their dreams to life, making the classroom feel more like home for them.

COVID-19 has made learning hard— students are experiencing emotions and stressors that they never have before and they aren’t sure how to work through. Providing them a welcoming environment will help them be successful throughout the school day while they learn skills and strategies to process their big emotions.

In this project are different options for flexible seating that still allows for students to get work done. Their favorite seat in the classroom is on the fluffy carpet, so having desks and seats for them to work there will light up their eyes! The light filters will help us to reduce the strain from the overhead lighting that they say gives them headaches and give the classroom a more welcoming vibe.

There are also some really exciting educational materials that will help the students not just in my classroom, but in their other classes around the school. There are manipulatives to help with the writing process as well as learning how to multiply fractions! All of these tools will help empower the learners who feel like they are struggling all the time. This project will help them to feel successful in the classroom and bring more joy to their school days— something that is much needed in the aftermath of COVID-19.
