This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are brilliant and vibrant scholars who enjoy reading and have developed a love for literacy and the written word. They are socially aware and hopeful of the future. They are resilient and have risen to our current events.

My Project

The books that have been requested are a collection of books that have diversity and representation at their core. My students, primarily Latino, Filipino, and Black, will feel validated and their experiences will be reflected in the works that have been selected for our classroom library. Representation is key and seeing main characters that have similar viewpoints characteristics and shared experiences will engage and motivate them to engage with literature. Making literature relevant through the words of the contemporary writer is important to nourish the love for reading and foment a lifetime practice.
