My students need more books! We are building our classroom library! All of these collections of books will give us much needed non-fiction books that interest my older students.
My classroom support students with complex and multiple challenges in a special education setting. I have students who come in to share time and support them in their learning and reading. Classroom staff work to keep students engaged and excited despite health concerns.
We are working on beginning literacy skills, like reading and writing.
My students need reading skills to become independent communicators. Most of my students can't use their voice to speak. They use a device to interact with others. That means they need to read and write to be able to say whatever they want to whoever they want, no matter where they are.
My Project
My students are working hard to learn to read and write on their own despite their disabilities. We need more books in order to keep these students engaged and working towards reading.
High school students don't want little kid books.
We need nonfiction books and books that appeal to older students to increase our interested and time spent working on reading. Our goal is to read with each student 5 or more times each school day. We run out of new books very quickly! Since we're in a high school, our library does not have picture books for us to use.
We need high-interest topics with pictures to help us understand and build our reading skills. Thank you for considering our project!
