I am a special education teacher working with students with social and emotional challenges. My students are creative, energetic hard workers who are in need of a safe and stable classroom. They are working to identify and regulate their own emotions, understand situations from others perspectives, and learning how interact appropriately and develop friendships with peers.
We are a part of a wonderful school community, but as a high-poverty school many of our students face challenges that can create barriers to their learning, such as hunger, unstable housing, and trauma.
Through social emotional learning opportunities, we hope to prepare students to be active participants in the school community and citizens in the larger community.
My Project
I am seeking resources to support my reluctant writers. Many of my students struggle with writing and I am looking for materials that allow them to work independently and achieve success. These materials will be engaging and supportive to my students developing more independence. Many of these materials offer repetition, routine, and scaffolds that will help many of my students succeed.
These materials will be used during our writing block when I am teaching in a small group.
In order to provide a smaller student to teacher ratio, much of my teaching takes place in small groups. These materials will provide new, engaging, independent writing time activities that support my instruction and provide opportunities for students to practice skills.
