Building Number Sense

Hello! I am a first grade teacher at an amazing public school in NC. My students are eager and inquisitive and their desire to learn keeps me on my toes! This is my 13th year teaching and I can't think of a better school or grade level to spend each and every day learning from my students! With recent budget cuts, we cannot order new, exciting materials. As you can imagine, 1st graders LOVE new, innovative alternatives to working out of a workbook. They LOVE hands-on, colorful activities that stimulate their thinking and allow them to move while learning. I am requesting activity kits that will keep their minds and their bodies active while learning valuable skills. Some of these engaging items include: Magic Function Math Machines--These “machines” help students master algebraic functions and increase computational speed with fun sturdy chipboard machines. Children draw number cards to create & solve equations then slide the cards into the machine and the correct answers pop out below! Building Numbers Activity Kit--This kit gives kids a concrete way to build number sense with hands-on activities that make concepts easy to see and easy to grasp! Children use the easy-linking cubes to show all possible ways to build each number and write equations as they go! See & Solve Manipulative Kit--This hands-on kit gives students a concrete understanding of numbers and quantities and makes problem solving a breeze! Children stack beads onto the 4 sturdy bases to create and solve simple equations or use 4 wooden boxes and laces to sort and pattern. I Can Add & Subtract Math Mats--Children use concrete objects to work out addition and subtraction problems adding ducks to a pond, parking cars in a garage and more! This set features mats with addition problems on one side and coordinating subtraction problems on the other plus matching foam shapes and numbers that make concepts easy to visualize! Your donation will make it possible for my students to have new, innovative materials to practice their math skills and build their number sense throughout the school year.
