Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Parents, students, and staff all work together to build excitement and a true sense, that education is important. We work together to build a foundation that will last a lifetime.
The desire for our students to do well academically is a goal that is shared throughout our school community.
My students are a part of a Title-1, inner-city school located in a low socioeconomic neighborhood in a large urban area of California. Our school provides a free breakfast and lunch for all students.
My Project
The Rekenrek manipulatives will help give my students hands on experiences in their math learning. As a class, we will be using our rekenreks throughout our math curriculum in order for students count and to tell how many, then eventually using them to understand addition and subtraction. Students will also be able to watch me while I use the teacher Rekenrek, which furthers their learning because they will be doing the same problems on their Rekenrek.
Students will be able to learn visually and kinesthetically with their own Rekenrek!
Students absolutely love using manipulatives! They love to show me their work when they are using them and their friends, which makes me happy because that means they are learning! My little students are so eager to learn and I can only imagine how they will react when they get their very own rekenrek! Thank you in advance for your donations!
