I teach 13 amazing second graders! My students are kind, loving and adventuresome. My students come to school daily to learn and grow. This is a very diverse group of students who have faced many challenges in their short lives. In our rural area, financial hardship is real.
Don't let life's circumstances fool you; my students are bright and eager and able to learn!
I want my students to be able to forget their troubles and enjoy learning and exploring. They are ready to explore the world around them, even though their world may be different from other students' from more affluent neighborhoods.
These children are our future, and I don't want their circumstances and our rural school's declining budget to define who they are and what they are capable of accomplishing in life.
My Project
My students really need this fact fluency kit from ETA hand2mind!
The math talks will help them develop number sense and the critical thinking skills that are so needed in today's world of STEM projects.
With the development of these skills they will become more fluent with their math.
These kids are hard working learners. I would love to give them the mental math tools that this kit helps develop.
I plan to use the kit in a short ten minute mini lesson just before we begin our math lesson. This will get their minds focused on math and using mental strategies. This project will benefit more than my 13 students this year. I plan to use it with many students for several years to come.
