Playing outdoors is a daily activity in my classroom. Outdoor play is a great way to burn off lots of energy and gives them the opportunity to explore and go on adventures. They build self-confidence, test their physical limits, and express themselves. Outdoor play also creates opportunities to practice safety, try new activities and increase their overall motor and social emotional skills. What becomes a problem is that we do not have sufficient items to encourage play and the development of hand-eye coordination and dexterity. Even though my students are great about using their imaginations and engaging in structured games provided by teaching staff they miss the opportunity for hands on learning. Students are not able to engage in hands on learning opportunities that involve carrying, picking up, pulling, pushing, and moving trucks and wagons around. By having trucks and wagons, students will be able to engage in valuable and increased learning opportunities that supports their whole development!
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase their imaginary play and social skills, but you will also expand their gross motor skills.
My preschool students are super excited to learn, play and are naturally curious about the world around them. COVID-19 has impacted their learning over the past year and half by not providing opportunities to attend in-person learning with their peers. All my students qualify for attendance in my program due to income eligibility requirements. This is the first time that many of my students have had the opportunity to attend preschool and interact and learn in a secure, safe, and nurturing school environment. I believe that the provision of positive and enriching learning opportunities paired with quality hands on learning materials provided at an early age lay the foundation for lifelong learning.
