My students need opportunities to stretch their logical thinking in a physical way. KEVA blocks are the perfect solution for their busy hands and minds.
I love working in my rural middle school with kids of all economic backgrounds, however many of my students come from low income homes, and opportunities are limited.
My students come into the library for many reasons, not just the amazing books.
They come for a safe place to relax, share, read, and enjoy the daily challenges that are provided. They have no choice in the life they are born into, but they have a choice in where they go.
I love being a part of their mental growth and their ability to overcome the social, emotional, and environmental challenges that life throws their way.
My Project
KEVA blocks are a simple, yet effective tool in stretching and growing the minds of middle schoolers. The blocks are simple enough that my autism classes can do a challenge, work on their dexterity, or simply be creative. As well as meet the needs of all levels of students.
A HUGE reason that students visit the library is to take a break from the rigor of a class, a frustrating situation, or simply a need to move about and have free choice.
This is the reason a challenge space is essential in the library. The KEVA blocks, and the challenges that come from the blocks (and from students minds) actually help ease anxiety and stress by giving students a new focus and a freedom to choose their level of challenge.
Investing in these KEVA blocks is investing in the growth mindset of my students, as well as contributing to their social and emotional growth. My students come from all walks of life, and have very little control over the things that occur around them. The challenge corner in the library is my attempt to change that, even if it's only for a short time a few days a week for each student.
The investment is minimal and the affects are exponential. Come help me build minds through busy hands.
