I teach in a city school district in Upstate NY. My program offers students the opportunity to spend 6 years in “high school” but graduate with both their high school diploma and their Associate’s Degree. The rigor of my program is intense for my students and has strict requirements for their math and ELA test scores. Due to gaps in their background knowledge, my students struggle to achieve these results the first time, or for some the second and third time to meet the test score requirements. They are then placed into a review or remedial program and signed up to test again. Although they try to persevere they become frustrated and many lose interest in math, writing, and school.
My Project
Students can use these self-guided and self-checking exercises to practice skills that they have knowledge gaps in. During class time, and again during math lab, students will have a chance to work in centers that focus on closing their individual knowledge gaps.
I am hoping this versatile kit will enable students to fill in the memory deficits as they work on Algebra I and Geometry curriculum, while allowing students to find independent success!
