This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a class of 27 English Language Learners hungry to succeed in their new home. My students come from Latin America, they have been in the country anywhere from a few weeks to three years. These students are bright and eager to read, write and speak English.

My students and their families came to America for opportunities.

They know that many doors will open for them once they master their new language. Learning to read and write English has the potential to transform their lives and the lives of their families.

My Project

Our school has invested in a wonderful program called Imagine Learning. This program is geared towards students who are learning English as a second language. Students are tutored in listening and speaking English, phonics, and reading comprehension. In order to take full advantage of the program we need head phones with microphones. I am also asking for a group set and CD of Stuart Little. I will use the book for guided reading instruction in order to re-enforce reading skills.

These materials will help my students receive individualized instruction.

My students will be able to go as fast or as slow as they need as they become literate in English. Furthermore, they will have the joy of reading a great classic, Stuart Little, and practice their newly acquired reading skills using authentic literature.
