My Students

I teach U.S. History to 7th grade ICT students. They are eager and enthusiastic learners who understand the importance of learning about America's past. This is evident when they make real world connections to topics we cover in our curriculum. I teach in a Title 1 school in Queens, which means many of my students are living below the poverty line.

My students are curious about the world and pose many "what if" questions, which always leads to enlightening student-to-student discussions in the classroom.

Forty percent of my students are learning disabled and require additional support and encouragement.

My Project

I teach American History to 7th grade ICT students who are struggling readers and writers. It can be challenging teaching new concepts when you have over 30 students in once class.

I need to model effective reading and writing strategies and "think alouds" when teaching new skills so my students can build their literacy and writing abilities.

With the iPad, I can control my computer from anywhere in the classroom. I can upload pictures of documents and model annotation, text coding, close reading, Cornell Notes and other strategies.

The iPad will also assist in gathering data in real time with applications which will allow me to scan student answers during a quick "check for understanding." I can then target struggling students who may not understand the content of the lesson and meet with them one-on-one.
