My students need a Community Library to get books in their hands to promote literacy!
This project expired on August 23, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
We are teachers in a low-income school district where 50% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. Our school is home to students of many different economic and ethnic backgrounds. Our students are a loving, energetic bunch that are constantly overcoming numerous challenges both in and out of school. Each day, they come to school full of life and eager to learn!
Our ultimate goal is to provide our students with everything they need to be successful by providing the families of our community with many opportunities to READ.
Being low income, most of our students cannot afford to buy books, and do not have the resources at home to give them access to books. A few of our teachers just learned about Little Free Libraries at a conference we recently went to and totally fell in love with the idea of helping our community grow through literacy!
This outdoor library would be a community book exchange promoting reading, recycling, and literacy in our little neighborhood.
Children can take a book and leave a book for others. The power of a Little Free Library can go beyond neighborhood building; it can inspire insurmountable creativity and instill a love of reading in so many minds, which is our hope for this school.
