My students need literacy materials and beginner support literacy opportunities. They need sight word readers so that they can learn to read and practice early reading strategies.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a teacher in a Title I low income school with children who are at risk from developing academic and social equality in order to develop and preform on grade level when entering kindergarten and grade beyond. In order to bridge the transition and help with the challenges the children face , I want to provide the children wirh a literacy enriching and meaningful learning environment. The children in the class need opportunities and materials to help build reading and writing skills that will improve the opportunity for the children to learn. This will bring the opportunity to expose the children to high level learning text and support.
My Project
The purpose of this project is to provide the children in my class with literacy materials to develop language and writing skills. The children will have the opportunity to use letter activities to engage a child awareness and interest in letters as they begin to learn the progression of writing and letter identification and phonological awareness. Many of the children in my class need support with learning letters. I want to provide the children with lessons to practice letter formation and book and print awareness. We will begin to create sentences with the sight word cards and sentence building materials. The use of these materials will increase the children’s writing and literacy development.
