My students come from various Boston neighborhoods. They are all on the autism spectrum and have various needs. This year I will be teaching grades K2-2. My goal is to ensure that each and every single one of them are provided with sensory needs they desire to build their literacy and writing skills.
This year we are concentrating on building literacy and writing skills and building a cozy/friendly library space for reading and sharing.
We would like to build the best library we can in our classroom. My students are all over the autism spectrum and it is critical that we provide the essentials to engage them in a way that they individually will grow.
Students will be able to use the bean bags in the library area for relaxed reading and practice writing their letters on the letter boards. They will also be able to copy and trace with the magnetic boards and dry erase boards. Students will be able to identify common words and build on their foundation by practicing sounding out letters in words.
Literacy skills help influence a child's love of reading and we intend to build this love.
Since our students require a little extra support these items will help in meeting their needs. The ability to practice writing all day long is going to benefit our students in a tremendous way.
